Collapsing thoughts into scribbles

As this mineral scratches the surface, absorbed and shaped as per convention, fragments of thought that seem to be contained within flesh are unleashed into space like radiation dispersed as waves that, if by chance should encounter the mind of an other, will collapse and be re-absorbed into new consciousness: ever-expanding, ever-emerging, radiating, connecting … and somewhere in that turbulent confluence of discursive thought and its concrete symbols disguised in symmetric forms lay glimpses of something True, a revelation easily dismissed by those guarded by certainties, but which resonates perfectly in those who seek earnestly, unaware of the object of their search yet compelled by a hope for clairvoyance, tranquility, and liberation.

  1. What a sentence! I was rewarded reading it slowly the second time. I like how it’s so long – it feels like a single complete thought. To break it up would do a disservice. I love the description of the pencil in service to a particular man in a particular place: “As this mineral scratches the surface, absorbed and shaped as per convention, fragments of thought that seem to be contained within flesh are unleashed”. And I love how what you wrote reminds us of the limitations of language: how in “discursive thought and its concrete symbols disguised in symmetric forms lay glimpses of something True”. How challenging that even for those who move forward to what they seek, a searching glance may hide what is sought.
